Biological samples

Sampling for the distribution of vegetation is usually done by diving, snorkelling or with underwater photography. Each of these methods have their strengths and weaknesses.

A crucial issue is taxonomic resolution: If your qoal is to map individual species, it is often necessary to use diving or snorkeling because it allows close examination and detailed species identification. This is especially true in species rich habitats such as XXX (Martin G?). However, if the aim is to produce maps of easily identified species or broad taxonomic categories, such as filamentous algae, fucoids or seagrasses, photographic techniques is usually much more cost-efficient.
