Travel and accommodation

By boat:
The best way to get to Husö biological station is from Stockholm or Turku (Tallinn is also possible) and take one of the following ferries to Mariehamn on the Åland Islands.

From Kapellskär Sweden 12:00 (Coach transport from Stockholm City terminal at 10:10)

No pre bookings are needed. Just buy the ticket in the terminal before you enter the ferry. To check your best options, visit:




You can use the Air Åland airline; they travel Mariehamn from Stockholm/Arlanda and Helsinki/Vantaa.

After the course, send us a travel claim together with your original bills!

Transport to Husö
We will arrange transportation from the ferry terminal or the airport to the station by car or taxis. To make the logistics work, it is very important that we know how and when you are arriving to the Åland Islands. So please, send your travel information to Martin Snickars well in advance - no later than 18th of February.


Husö biological station is located quite far from shops and restaurants, so please, bring the things you need during the week. Refreshments including a small selection of sweets, snacks and beer can however be bought at the station. Please note - we take cash only!

You will need to bring shoes/flipflops to be used indoors. Sheets and towels you do not need to bring.

If you have any special diet, send an e-mail to Martin Snickars no later tha 18.2, to make sure that the kitchen personnel is prepared.

The BONUS programme and PREHAB project together with Åbo Akademi University and University of Gothenburg will cover the costs for accommodation and travel for students from the Baltic countries.

Students outside the BONUS member countries need to find their own financing.
