Benefit transfer

Benefit transfer is based on the idea of transfering economic information from one particularly study area to another. The advantage of this method is the savings in money and time compared to performing a new study. However, differences in study areas, study populations, and other variables may cause difficulties to the transfer. Thus the benefit transfer can’t be better than the original study, and it’s important to notice the quality and accuracy of the original data.

  • A Baltic example of the benefit transfer method: Ahtiainen (2009) conducted an international meta-analysis of the value of the Baltic Sea.
